372,392. Light-sensitive cells. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Feb. 3, 1931, No. 3503. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1930. Addition to 358,539. [Class 40 (iii).] A cell according to the parent Specification has (a) an anode 5, (b) a semiconducting layer 1, (c) a very thin and substantially transparent film 2 of a highly electron emitting substance on the semiconducting layer, and (d) a conductor in contact with the film consisting of a grid 3 or net through which visible and infrared rays can penetrate the film from the rear side. The film 2 is preferably of potassium, caesium or other strongly electropositive metal applied by evaporation or cathode dispersion, for example in the evacuated cell, excess metal being removed by heating or evaporation so as to form a " single atom " film.
