Abstract
335,958. Henroteau, F. C. P. June 4, 1929. Vacuum tubes.-A photoelectric cell for television comprises an evacuated vessel 1, Fig. 1, a cathode 4, an anode 7 and a window 1<a>. The cathode consists of an earthed aluminium plate 2<a>, a layer 3 of insulating material such as aluminium oxide and a surface 4 of potassium hydride containing small globules of pure potassium or other photoelectric material. A grid 5 may be kept charged by a battery 6 and an anode 7 is connected to an amplifying system. The inner surface of the vessel 1 is partly coated with a layer 21 of potassium. An alternative form of cathode, Fig. 7, consists of a glass plate 100 having a number of cups filled with a, liquid alloy such as potassium and sodium. The grid 102 rests on the glass surface and is capable of various connections. The anode 103 and the photoelectric layer 108 are arranged as in Fig. 1. The surface 4 in Fig. 1 may be prepared as described in Specification 255,057 or by bombarding a thin layer of potassium, sodium, caesium or rubidium hydride with cathode rays which transform elementary areas into groups of fine globules of metal. Specification 335,995 is referred to.
