[Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] An optical image A1 B1 of an object AB is projected on a photo-electric surface PS which is scanned by a spot of light or other radiation controlled by a mirror drum or an apertured disc ND. In addition to the photoelectric cathode, the cell PC has a negatively biassed grid G1 and an anode G2 and has a non-linear relationship between incident light intensity and anode current. The non-linear relationship is obtained by the grid G1 or by the shape of the envelope or of the other electrodes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 368,705.
