The light emitted is focused by a lens 7 on the photo-electric elements in a separate evacuated envelope 9. According to modifications : the photo-electrons are incident on secondary-emitting electrodes to increase the number of electrons collected on the respective anodes, which are connected to an equal number of elements disposed in a beam of light to control its intensity, Fig. 2 (not shown); the cathode-ray tube 1 is made of quartz, and the screen 6 emits ultra-violet light, which is incident on electrometer leaves in air.
