Abstract

505,686. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 30, 1937, No. 36153. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] A screen for television transmission consists of a thin film of germanium or other material of high positive or negative thermo-electric power such as antimony or, bismuth; the apparatus is especially designed for the transmission of infra-red images, which are projected on the screen and scanned by a cathode ray ; the image signals are derived from a conductor connected to the metal film. In the arrangement shown the screen 2 consists of a film of germanium, transmitting about 1 per cent of the incident light, on a backing of mica. The border of the mica is platinized, or similarly coated, and enclosed in a metal frame connected by a conductor 23 to ordinary amplifying and transmitting means. The image to be transmitted is projected on to the screen 2 through a window 3 in the bulb 1 consisting of potassium chloride, quartz, rocksalt or some fluoride transparent to infra-red rays, the projecting system. 4 being of similar material. The screen is scanned by a projected ray from a cathode 5 with modulating electrodes and anodes of ordinary' type, including an anode costing 8 on the bulb.
