Convention date, Aug. 7, 1930. [Class 9 (i).] A delay-action percussion fuze is made with two longitudinal bore s symmetrically disposed about the axis of the projectile and containing a striker 4 and a weight 5 both formed with teeth in mesh o n opposite sides with a central pinion 6. The striker 4 bears against a spring 4b, and the parts are normally held at safe by a centrifugal bolt 9 which is itself locked in place by a projection 5b of the weight 5. On impact, the weight 5 moves forward by virtue of its momentum and cocks the striker 4 against its spring ; and the bolt 9 being thus unlocked moves out by centrifugal force. When the projectile has overcome the resistance of the target, and the momentum is almost entirely absorbed, the spring 4b drives the striker 4 forward and the weight 5 backward until the rack teeth of the striker slip away from the pinion 6, whereupon the striker hits the percussion cap 8, which explodes the projectile. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a modification in which the pinion is replaced by a rocking lever and the centrifugal safety is differentlly arranged. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
