370,134. Printing-machines. ARMSTRONG, W., Garden Engineering Works, Ramsbottom, Manchester. Feb. 24, 1931, No. 5807. [Class 100 (ii).] Rotary machines; impression adjustments.- Webs of paper are printed in multi-colour at a rapid rate by rotary photogravure machines, and to ensure perfect register the web is subjected to a preliminary heating or drying operation followed by a cooling operation to mature or standardize the paper, and the printing- surface is so mounted that it can be adjusted accurately in three directions perpendicular to each other. The web 1 passes over heating rollers 4, 5, 7, 8 and thence around cooling rollers 9, 10 and guide rollers 11, 12 to the plate cylinder 13 and impression roller 14, whence it passes to further printing couples. The cylinder 13 is axially adjustable, or the printing- plate is axially adjustable thereon, and it is mounted in a slide which can be adjusted laterally by a screw 15, and by means of a screw 16 it can be adjusted vertically. Thermostatic devices may be used to control the temperature of the rollers 4, 5, 7 .. 10.
