[Class 100 (i).] In a rotary photogravure printing-machine of the kind in which a plurality of printing units A .. D are used for making successive impressions on a web, web-controlling means is provided comprising a plurality of freely mounted rollers 32 for guiding the web through the printing-couples 3, 4, the rollers being arranged so that the path of the web may be arranged so as to ensure drying of the ink between successive impressions. The invention is described in connection with a machine of the kind described in Specification 391,461. The rollers 32 over which the web passes immediately before and after receiving an impression are all geared by bevel gearing to a common shaft 34 so that their speed is the same, and during the printing operation the rollers 32 are driven by the web whieh is advanced by the printing-couples. At the commencement of the operations, the rollers 32, which are preferably covered with plush, are driven by a hand-lever 35 on the shaft 34 to thread the web through the machine. Certain of the guide rollers 32a are mounted at one end in eccentric bearings 36, so that if the design is slightly askew on the printing- cylinder, a correct print may be obtained by adjusting the bearings. Between the first guide rollers 32 is provided a brake for maintaining the tension of the web consisting of spring-pressed arms 38 fitted with a roller 39, over which the web passes, and with a brake pad 41 which presses the web against one of the rollers 32 when the web is slack.
