Abstract

282,885. Jones, F. C. E. Sept. 29, 1926. Feeding webs.-In a rotary machine in which relief impressions are stamped from a printing- cylinder 1 fitted with a curved intaglio printing- surface, this surface is wiped by a web passing over a cylinder 56 which moves in the opposite direction to the cylinder 1. The web passes from a roll 64 and is wound up on a spindle 75 which is rotated intermittently by a pulley 76 engaged by a cord 77 attached to fixed supports '78. The spindle 75 and pulley 76 are mounted in a frame 72 reciprocated on rollers 73, engaging a fixed track 74, by a rack 70 engaged by oscillating sectors 69 on the shaft of the wiping roller 56. A pawl 80 engaging a ratchet 79 on the shaft of the pulley 76 prevents rotation of shaft 75 as the carriage 72 moves to the left but permits rotation of shaft 75 as the carriage 72 moves to the right. The spindle 75 is supported on a spring 81, and maintains the roll of used wiping material in contact with a roller 68.
