Abstract

214,669. Cooper, J. M. Oct. 28, 1922. Printing processes and apparatus.- An apparatus for printing paper fabrics, &c. by the process described in Specification 134,284 is constructed with a plain metal roller A which receives its colour direct from a duct formed between it and an adjustable roller K driven at a different speed from the roller A and fitted with a scraper k<1>. The web E to be printed is fed from a roll D over guide rails or rollers H .. H<3>, some of which may be scrimp rails to tension the web laterally and remove creases, and the web passes over about three-quarters of the periphery of the design-carrying roller B and is wound up on a roller driven by a slip pulley and band from the roller B. The design may be. fixed to the roller B, or it may be carried by an endless flexible band P mounted around an adjustably mounted roller p fitted with inclined flanges, and the band is kept slack so as to rest centrally on the flanges. The pattern itself if of lace may be passed over the roller p without a. supporting band. The roller B is adjustable by screws or eccentrics, and a scraper M is used on roller A to remove fluff and superfluous ink. A second impression roller may be arranged to print a reverse design on a second web, this roller being arranged to take up from the roller A the pattern which remains on it after the web E has been printed. In a modification of the inking-apparatus the roller K is replaced by an adjustable plate which may be fitted with a celluloid plate to bear on the rollers. The roller A may also be inked by reciprocating distributing rollers which receive their supply from a duct away from the cylinder A, and a reciprocating distributing roller may be arranged on the cylinder A behind the printing position. The cylinder B may be an engraved cylinder and may print a duplex impression on the back of the web. According to the Provisional Specification the roller A may receive stripes of different colours so as to give multi-colour impressions.
