Abstract
725,885. Stencilling-machines. BARROS, A. J. C. DE O. June 3, 1953 [Nov. 27, 1952], No. 15371/53. Class 100 (2). A multi-colour stencilling- - machine comprises a number of stencil cylinders coacting with an equal number of impression cylinders over which is passed an endless cloth or belt blanket having a length equal to the periphery of the stencil cylinders or a multiple thereof so that any colour passing through the material to be printed forms a pattern on the blanket which remains in register with the design on the stencil cylinders and therefore does not cause soiling of the other side of the material. As shown in Fig. 2, stencil cylinders 11, 12, 13 have internal rollers 14, 15, 16 for forcing colour through the stencil screens. Each roller 14, 15, 16 co-operates with an impression cylinder 21, 22, 23, these serving as pulleys for the endless blanket 20. A further pulley roller 25 co-operates with a roller 26 feeding the web A of material to the blanket 20. The web passes between the blanket and each stencil cylinder and is passed away over roller 18. The impression cylinders 21, 22, 23 are driven by gears from a central driving gear. In the form of Figs. 4, 5 the impression cylinders 21, 22, 23 are mounted for radial adjustment on arms 48 of spiders 47 carried on a fixed tubular member 46. The member 46 is supported at each end by screw-threaded rods 45, Fig. 5, engaged in frame parts 44. Mounted for axial adjustment on the screwed rods 45 are rotatable toothed end-plates 28 between which the blanket is stretched so that it passes round the impression cylinders in a circular path. The stencil cylinders 11, 12, 13, e.g. as described in Specification 703,887, are mounted for adjustment towards and away from the impression cylinders by hand wheels 41. Toothed endplates 27 on the stencil cylinders co-operate with the toothed plates 28 carrying the blanket 20. The inking rollers 14, 15, 16 are mounted on arms 43 attached to hollow supports inside the cylinders and are supported by guides 66. Colour is fed to the inside of the stencilling ,cylinder through pipes 42. The web A is passed in over roller 26, also adjustable towards and away from the co-operating roller 25 by handles 53. A gear 29 on the shaft 52 of roller 26 meshes with the toothed plate 28 and the shaft is driven by a chain belt passing over pulley 30, thereby driving all the other parts of the machine.
