tour suivant dudit cylindre presseur.
Machine for printing a web material, in particular fabrics and papers. Multi-color tissue and paper printing machines generally have a central cylinder called a pressure cylinder, the surface of which is almost entirely enveloped during its rotation by the material to be printed and against which printing cylinders are pressed. These printing cylinders are the phis often cylinders, copper, engraved,
applied with strong pressure against the pressure cylinder and driven by it. Each printing cylinder has a dye supply device with doctor blades.
However, there are machines in which the printing cylinders are constituted by a permeable surface and internally fed with dye (stencils or rotary frames). In this case, the printing cylinders are driven directly, in concordance with each other and with the pressing cylinder, by a separate control. They are pressed against the pressing cylinder with less pressure.
The equipment of printing machines with cylinders with a permeable surface constitutes, compared to those equipped with engraved cylinders, a notable simplification and a very clear improvement. It allows in particular the removal of doctor blades, organs which are most often the cause of defects in printing. But above all the machines thus produced are of lighter construction and simpler to assemble; they require much less driving force.
In addition, the engraving prices are much lower than with copper cylinders.
Whether it is a question of machines with engraved cylinders or with permeable cylinders, it is usual to interpose between the fabric being printed and the press cylinder a special so-called doubler fabric, tines to absorb the excess. possible color that may pass through the material to be printed and prevent this excess of color, repor tant on the lining of the pressure cylinder, then come to soil the material to be printed at,
next turn of said pressing cylinder.
The present invention relates to a machine for printing a web material, in particular fabrics and papers, having printing cylinders with a permeable surface with an internal supply of dye, said cylinders having equal diameters, characterized in that the printing cylinders are supported on an endless belt, having a development equal to a whole number of times the development of a printing cylinder, said belt being supported by freely rotating casters facing each printing cylinder.
Depending on the number of printing cylinders, the development of the endless belt may be reduced, two, three or more times the development of a printing cylinder.
The development of the endless belt being equal to that of a printing cylinder @ or a multiple thereof, it is understood that the excess dye which, after having passed through the material to be printed, may have been deposited on the belt endless, is found in the following passage coincident with the same design, without any risk of soiling. As a result, the usual duplicate is no longer necessary and can be deleted,
the mo ment that Lm.e regular and precise introduction of the material is ensured by an appropriate usual introducer device, pneumatic or electric.
In the printing machine thus constituted, the pressure cylinder of the usual machines is eliminated, being replaced by the endless belt. The construction is simple and the assembly is easy. The printing obtained is very precise and of excellent quality.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the printing machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 schematically shows a known print machine.
Fig. 2 schematically represents a first embodiment of the machine according to the invention.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section, also tick diagram, along line III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of a practical embodiment, this section being taken along the line IV-IV of FIG. 5.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section on the line V-V of FIG. 4.
Fig. 6 is a plan view.
Fig. 7 is the Moon seen in side elevation. Fig. 1 shows a machine for printing fabrics or papers, of a known type, in which a pressure cylinder 10 are associated with three printing cylinders 11, 12, 13, with permeable surfaces with internal supply of dye.
Each of the printing rollers is provided with a toothed pinion, all these pinions meshing with the same toothed wheel coaxial with the pressing cylinder 10 and of the same diameter as the latter. The printing cylinders are applied to the pressing cylinder with a pressure compatible with the nature of their permeable surface.
Inside each printing cylinder is mounted a roller 14, 15, 16, applying the dye to the permeable surface on the line of tangency with the pressing cylinder 10.
The material to be printed A, supplied by an introducer roll 17, is applied against the pressure cylinder 10 which it envelops; it successively comes into contact with the printing cylinders 11, 12, 13, from which it receives the printing of the designs provided in the permeable surface thereof. 'Dnsiiite, it passes on a roller 18 which directs it towards a dryer.
With this arrangement, it is customary to associate with the material A a doubler absorbing the excess of color supplied to the passage in front of the printing cylinders and preventing this excess .de coming to soil the surface of the pressing cylinder 10 and consequently the reverse side. of the material.
In the embodiments of the machine according to the invention, which will now be described, the pressing cylinder 10 is omitted, as well as the doubler.
In the schematic embodiment of FIGS. 2 and 3, the material to be printed, for example a fabric, is presented to equal printing rolls 11, 12, 13 by an endless belt 20 having a development strictly equal to that of a printing cylinder. To ensure contact with said cylinders of the endless belt and of the fabric A driven by the latter, the endless belt is applied along the lines of tangency by rollers 21, 22, 23 mounted in free rolling on a fixed support 24 and radially adjustable.
An additional roller 25, mounted on the same support 24, and also adjustable, ensures the tension of the belt 20 and its driving, whatever the speed of the latter. 26 is a fabric introducer cylinder tightened or not against the belt 20.
As seen in fig. 2, in this machine with three printing cylinders, the belt 20 is stretched over four rollers 21, 22, 23 and 25, and its outline affects the shape of a square, a rhombus or a quadrilateral whatever conch .
The perimeter of this quadrilateral is exactly equal to the development of the peripheral area of a printing cylinder 11, 12 or 13. Alternatively, this perimeter could be equal to an integer number of times the development of a cylinder. printer.
By suitable arrangements, the circumference of the carpet could be a polygon having a number of sides greater than four, or be made oval or even circular, as will be described later on the subject of a second embodiment.
The drive of the printing cylinders 11 to 13 is provided by toothed pinions which are integral with each of the cylinders, such as 27 (fig. 3), meshing with a wheel 28 of the same diameter, coaxial with the belt 20, which receives its drive d a pinion 29 driven by a control wheel 30, said pinion 29 being integral with the cylinder 26. The wheel 30 receives its movement from the motor member of the machine by any suitable means, chain, belt, etc.
A similar arrangement exists at each end of the machine.
As can be seen, the pressing cylinder 10 of FIG. 1 is replaced (FIG. 2) by a set of rollers equal in number to that of the printing cylinders plus one, the additional roller 25 can moreover correspond to an additional printing cylinder.
The comparison of fig. 1 and 2 make it possible to immediately appreciate the reduction in the size and weight of the machine.
In addition, the endless belt 20 having exactly the same development as that of a printing cylinder 11, 12 or 13, it is always the same part of the belt 20 which presents itself with the same designs of said cylinders. Therefore, if an excess of color has passed through the material A at one pass past a cylinder, the part of the belt 20 which received this excess will come on the next pass to exactly coincide with the same pattern.
As a result, the doubler, necessary in the case of FIG. 1, here becomes unnecessary and can be omitted, which constitutes an important simplification, as well as an appreciable saving.
The elimination of the pressure cylinder not only reduces the bulk, but also the inertia of the machine. It follows that the dis position of FIG. 2 allows particularly rapid start-up. Its lightness ensures a reduction in driving force. These advantages are obtained without adversely affecting the quality of the printing which, on the contrary, is improved by the accentuation of the curvature on the lines of tan gence and the faculty of precise adjustment of the contact pressure.
The web printing machine, shown in fig. 2 and 3, is arranged for printing in three colors.
But it goes without saying that it could be adapted to the printing of any number of colors, by sparing the corresponding number of printing cylinders and by giving the endless belt the corresponding development either to that of a printing cylinder, or to a multiple suitable for this development.
It is then sufficient to stretch the endless belt by means of a number of rollers at least equal to that of the printing cylinders.
It is also possible to arrange the machine in such a way that it makes it possible to work as required with a variable number of printing cylinders. In this case, provision should be made to support the carpet. endless a corresponding number of rollers mounted on articulated supports, adjustable and erasable according to the printing cylinders implemented.
The practical form of execution; shown in fig. 4 to 7, comprises a frame composed of vertical uprights 31 connected by horizontal crossbars 32, 33. On the crossbars 32 are mounted supports 35 receiving a fixed axis 36 of the lower printing cylinder 12. The supports 35 are adjustable in vertical position. by means of handwheel screws 37.
The crosspieces 33 receive supports 38, adjustable by horizontal sliding, carrying fixed axes 39, 40 of the printing cylinders 11 and 13. The support 38 is adjusted by means of screws 41.
The printing cylinders. 11, 12, 13 are made up of a surface with permeable zones stretched over side flanges mounted to rotate on sliding supports, themselves mounted on the fixed shaft 36, 39 or 40. The fixed shafts are hollow and serve to food coloring. 42 shows a dye supply tube.
The construction of said printing cylinders is advantageously established, as was described in Swiss patent No. 298849 of January 28, 1952 for Ma chine to print fabrics in several colors. According to this arrangement, each of the hollow pins 36, 39 or 40 carries the supports 43 which serve as supports for the axes of the dye application rollers 14, 15, 16. The diameter of the latter depends on the development and the size. drawing width.
These rollers can be, as shown, freely rotating, driven by contact with the inner wall of the surface of the printing cylinders, by ball bearing mounting placed inside said rollers. But, in some cases, it may be of interest that they be ordered. Their axes then carry toothed wheels at their ends meshing directly or indirectly with toothed rings carried by the flanges of the printing cylinders, with a suitable spoke ratio to ensure a peripheral speed equal to that of the printing cylinders.
The castors 14, 15 and 1.6 are rigid, for example made of metal or of a hard material, with a smooth face. They are applied to the inner surface of the printing cylinders with a fixed predetermined pressure; but adjustable, for example by means arranged in the supports 43.
Incidentally, and in particular when printing over large widths, there is an interest in opposing the bending of said rollers or in remedying the bending resulting from the pressure with which they press on the permeable surface of the printing cylinder. For this purpose, from place to place are arranged on the fixed axis of the ancillary supports 66. These supports are furnished with rollers 67 on which the wheel is supported while rolling.
On the crosspieces 33 are also mounted, between the supports 38 of the cylinders 11 and 13, supports 44 carrying a fixed axis 45 of the device replacing the pressing cylinder. On this axis 45 is mounted a fixed tube 46 carrying the rollers 21, 22, 23 and 25. The central tube 46 carries a cross member 47 (FIG. 4). In each branch of the cross member 47 is placed a sliding bearing support 48, radially adjustable by screw 49.
The supports 48 carry the ends of the axis 50 of each of the rollers 21, 22, 23 and 25. These are mounted on ball bearings and rotate freely on a rigid axis; they are preferably metallic with or without a coating of a softer material.
Enveloping the rollers 21, 22, 23, 25 is mounted the endless belt 20. This endless belt can be of any suitable material, that is to say having the flexibility of rotation essential without comprising elongation, nor deformation. In addition, it has an exterior coating allowing it to be easily washed during each design change.
This mat may consist of a strip resting on the adjustable rollers and therefore has any contour, polygonal, oval or circular. Its length is determined to exactly match the development of the outer surface of a printing cylinder 11, 12 or 13.
Preferably, the endless belt is mounted, in the same way as any of the printing cylinders, that is to say, the endless belt is mounted and stretched over side flanges identical to those of. printing cylinders 1.1 to 13.
Above the supports 44 are mounted supports 51 carrying an axis 52 of the feed roller 26. The distance of the roller 26 to the belt 20 (and to the material) is adjusted by a handwheel screw 53.
As can be seen, the printing cylinders 11, 12, 13, the endless belt 20, the roller 26, have their drive in rotation combined by means of the set of toothed wheels 27, 28, 29 (fig. 3 and 5 ). This combination, adjustable with precision by usual micrometric devices (not shown), ensures an exact correspondence of the designs to be printed and their correspondence with the unwinding of the endless belt 20.
