This makes it possible to make the treatment carried out by means of the folding cylinder (2) more efficient, and consequently to improve the quality of the finished product. Furthermore, this makes it possible to drastically reduce the pressure losses associated with the action of suction of the air inside the cylinder (2). What has been said applies analogously to the cylinder (3) and to the rollers (4) as regards the subdivision of the suction action between the different suction chambers (33) distributed along their axes.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method and a tissue paper folding machine, towels and the like.
It is known that machines for folding tissues include: a group of unwinding of a continuous strip of sampled paper from a reel; an embossing group for print relief decorations on paper; a cutting group to form several strips or "working channels" from the main strip powered from the coil; ways to longitudinal folding of the different strips in continued; a transverse cutting group or "slicing" of the strips thus folded to form individual handkerchiefs, with a pair of cylinders, one says "cutting" and the other says "of maintenance "of the product, on the surfaces of which adhere to the strip segments that have been cut, thanks to a suction action carried out on them, from inside the rollers, by means of a plurality of communicating surface holes with corresponding internal chambers air suction; a third cylinder, called "folding cylinder", with the active surface with several communicating through holes with corresponding internal chambers suction to retain the product during processing, which is contiguous to the cylinder of holding and intended to take the segments from paper from the latter, after activation a corresponding group of valves intended for the suction control; several others rollers, adjacent to the folding cylinder, too with the active surface perforated so suitable, and equipped with a suction system the air from inside, eventually called "auxiliary rollers", which are intended for peel off the front edge of the different tissues being folded. It is also known that the paper to cut and fold is fed from the top down and that the length of the rollers and aforementioned cylinders is approximately equal to the width of the paper feed spool.
The German patents DE 3439211A1, DE 3243778A1 and DE 3241869A1 describe as many devices for folding paper tissues and the like in machines based on the operating methodology mentioned above and which relate, more particularly, to the suction system of the air in the different folding cylinders. Substantially, they are hollow cylinders, with the active surface pierced at several points so as to be communicating with an internal suction chamber and from which the air is sucked through one or both of its ends.
But this results in a non-uniform distribution of the pressure lines along the axial direction of the cylinders, mainly due to the pressure losses due to the large length of the cylinders themselves, so that the suction efficiency turns out gradually decreasing from the ends towards the center of the cylinders.
To partially remedy this serious downside, you have to resort to a surplus energetic aspiration, which results in a higher specific energy consumption, and consequently more production costs important. Furthermore, to maintain losses load within tolerable limits, it is necessary to appropriately shape the internal surface of the cylinders, i.e. their suction chambers, which requires machining extremely neat and precise of these and the intervention of highly qualified specialists. All this effectively prevents the manufacture of large machines, i.e. with long cylinders suitable for great storytelling productions this is required by the market and furthermore it increases of their manufacturing cost. In addition to that, the fact is that being necessary to power the paper from top to bottom, it is not possible to exploit the force of gravity acting on edges to fold handkerchiefs for easy folding.
Documents EP-A-302031 and DE-A-2439780 describe machines for shaping paper comprising rollers and working cylinders on which the paper is retained by suction forced through the outer surface of the rollers and cylinders.

The main object of the present invention is to eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks.

- en correspondance des stations de découpage (T) et de pliage (P) des mouchoirs, alimenter le papier avec une progression (F) de l'embase de la machine vers son sommet, de manière à faciliter le pliage des bords des mouchoirs à plier par effet de la force de gravité agissant sur le bord antérieur respectif, dans le sens de progression du papier, après interruption de l'aspiration dans la zone de contact avec le rouleau auxiliaire correspondant;
- in correspondence with the stations for cutting (T) and folding (P) the tissues, feed the paper with a progression (F) from the base of the machine towards its top, so as to facilitate the folding of the edges of the tissues to be folded by the effect of the force of gravity acting on the respective anterior edge, in the direction of progression of the paper, after interruption of the suction in the zone of contact with the corresponding auxiliary roller;
- retaining the product being treated on the external surface of the corresponding treatment rollers and cylinders, by means of forced suction carried out through several separate contiguous and coaxial segments of these rollers and cylinders and possibly of reduced volume, and for each segment through several series of holes aligned longitudinally and so as to delimit a plurality of chambers which communicate with a main suction chamber by means of several radial transverse holes in succession programmed under the control of the valve with the rotation of the cylinder or roller so as to allow uniform depression over the entire length of their axes, even with reduced values of differential pressure between the inside and the outside of the rollers and cylinders.
And as for the machine to put in works said process, it includes a plurality cylinders and rollers for cutting and transverse folding of the paper, each of which with its respective active surface provided with several groups of through holes which communicate with corresponding internal suction chambers air.
plusieurs cannelures longitudinales, chacune
d'aspiration de l'air (AS): ladite vanne (32) étant
coaxiale au cylindre (3) et supportée par ce
dernier.
(AS): lesdites chambres d'aspiration étant
More particularly and with reference to Figs. 3 - 7 of the accompanying drawings, the folding cylinder (2) of the machine consists of a plurality of coaxial cylindrical segments (20) connected in unidirectional cascade with interposition of a fixed valve (21) between each pair of segments (20 ) contiguous, which is connected to a source (AS) of air suction, so as to delimit a corresponding main suction chamber (28). The external, that is to say active, surface of each segment (20) of the cylinder (2) is appropriately grooved longitudinally and in correspondence with each groove is fixed a rectangular plate (23) with several holes (24) through, so as to define a plurality of chambers (22) which communicate with said chamber (28) by means of several radial through holes (29), in programmed succession controlled by the valve (21) with the rotation of the cylinder (2) . Each segment (20) of the cylinder (2) is mounted on a corresponding support (25) wedged on a horizontal shaft (26). Each valve (21) is connected to the support '(25) of the respective segment (20) by means of two bearings (27).
The rotation of the shaft (26) causes the corresponding rotation of the segments (20) of the cylinder (2) relative to the air suction valves (21). As a result of this rotation, the chambers (22) of each segment (20) are in communication with the corresponding chamber (28) in the desired sequence, via the radial holes (29). In this way, each group of holes (24) is slaved to the desired sequential suction, so as to allow the retention and respectively the programmed release of the paper on the active surface of the corresponding cylindrical segment (20).
With reference to Figs. 8 - 10 of the accompanying drawings, the cutting cylinder (3) is made in one piece, with the active surface provided with several longitudinal grooves, each of which has a length equal to the width of two working channels and with a rectangular plate (34) corresponding provided with several through holes (35), so as to delimit as many chambers (33), each of which communicates through an opening (36) with a fixed valve (32) arranged in correspondence of its center line and connected to the air suction installation (AS): said valve (32) being coaxial with the cylinder (3) and supported by the latter.
Alternatively, with reference to FIG. 11 of the accompanying drawings, each of said longitudinal grooves has a length equal to the width of a working channel. This further increases the uniformity of the suction flow and thus the efficiency of the machine.
Regarding the auxiliary rollers (4), their manufacture is identical to that described above for the cutting cylinder (3). More particularly, the auxiliary rollers (4) have the active surface provided with several internal suction chambers, which have a length equal to the width of one or two working channels and are connected to corresponding valves controlled by an installation of air suction (AS): said suction chambers being delimited by as many longitudinal grooves made on the active surface of the rollers and covered by corresponding plates provided with several through holes so as to achieve direct pneumatic communication between the suction chambers and the active surface of the rollers (4).
The subdivision of the cylinder (2) into several segments (20), each of which provided with a main suction chamber (28) of reduced length to exert the action of retaining the paper on the active surface, makes it possible to obtain a uniform and correct distribution of pressure lines over the entire length of the cylinder axis (2).
