[Class 100 (ii).] Inking-apparatus.-In rotary intaglio printing- machines having the printing-surface extending only partly around the circumference of the forme cylinder, means are provided for moistening the printing-plate for a predetermined portion either in front of, or in front of and behind, the part serving as the printing-surface with an ink-dissolving or ink-diluting medium which permits a scraper being applied to the printing-plate on the parts of the printing-plate which are not inked. The printing- plate c, as shown in the Figure, clamped on the plate cylinder b, having an etched printing-surface k and blank parts l and m, is inked on the printing-surface by means of a roller f and an oscillating roller g. A duct h contains an ink-dissolving medium which is transferred to the printing-plate on the parts l, m by an oscillating roller i. A scraper d underneath the frame cylinder is only lifted from the cylinder during the passage of the gap in which the plate is clamped. Wicks, sprayers, or the like may be used instead of the roller i.
