Abstract

278,215. Horn, J. Dec. 13, 1926. Rotary offset machines.-Deep impressions in single colour or multi-colour, or perfected impressions, are obtained in a rotary offset machine by transferring two identical impressions to, the offset cylinder b from the plate cylinder a and then printing this thick impression on sheets which are fed to the impression c on alternate revolutions only. The printed sheet may pass to a second set of cylinders a<1>, b<1>, c<1> for superposing a. second impression or for perfecting. In a modification the sheet may remain for nearlv two revolutions on the impression cylinder, and on its first rotation it is printed only with ink left on the offset cylinder from the previous printing operation. In the second rotation of the cylinder, the sheet is printed with an impression transferred to the offset cylinder b from a twiceinked printing-plate, the offset and printing-cylinders being moved out of contact for alternate revolutions. In the first arrangement the plate and offset cylinders are in constant contact, and the impression and offset cylinders moved out of contact for alternate revolutions.
