417,414. Printing machines. COLVILLE, R. T., Argyle Avenue, Chelsea, Victoria, Australia. Sept. 11, 1933, No. 25149. [Class 100 (ii).] A multi - colour rotary offset printing - machine is fitted with three or more impression surfaces 11<a>, 11<b>, 11<c> on the impression cylinder 11, and the sheets are fed from a feed table 15 to the grippers of alternate surfaces only. These sheets are printed with multi-impressions by means of offset printing-cylinders 12, 12a, each of which is printed with a two-colour impression from plate cylinders 13, 13<a>: 13b, 13<c>. The printing-surfaces 12b occupy only a half of the periphery of the cylinders 12, 12<a>, since each impression surface is followed by a blank space on the impression cylinder. Instead of superposing the multi-impressions from the offset surfaces 12b the sheets may be perfected in multi-colours by fitting offset blankets on the cylinder 11 and printing from the cylinder 12<a> on these blankets before they receive sheets from the table 15. The sheets then receive offset multi-colour impressions on each side. The impression cylinder may be fitted with five, or other odd number of impression or offset blankets, and more than two plate cylinders may be provided for each offset cylinder, but in each case only half the periphery of each printing-cylinder is plated.
