Abstract

1841. Waite, F., and Waite & Saville. Jan. 23. Offset machines. - Rotary offset printing- presses, of the kind comprising five cylinders adapted to produce either two-colour or perfector work, comprise an impression cylinder 1, two transfer cylinders 2, 3 provided with suitable tripping - mechanism, and two plate cylinders 4, 5, all of the same size and arranged as follows. The plate cylinder 4 is above the transfer cylinder 2. which is about level with and to the rear of the impression cylinder. The plate cylinder 5 is in front of and slightly below the transfer cylinder 3, which is beneath and slightly to the rear of the impression cylinder. The impression cylinder 1, as well as the transfer cylinders, is provided with an offset blanket, a n d the impression cylinder and the rear transfer cylinder 2 are provided with grippers 9, 10. The sheets may be printed in two colours and delivered to the delivery mechanism 13; or they may be perfected by being fed at alternate revolutions of the impression cylinder, the transfer cylinder 3 being tripped. By means of an auxiliary delivery mechanism (not shown) between the transfer cylinders, and by transferring the sheets from the grippers 9 to the grippers 10, the sheets may be perfected at every revolution of the impression cylinder.
