687. Linotype and Machinery, Ltd., and Parker, T. R. G. Jan. 10. Rotary machines; cylinder machines; offset machines.-A two-revolution machine which can be used in a variety of ways comprises an impression cylinder as 2 fitted with two sets of grippers 3<a>, 4<a> and two segmental surfaces which may be fitted with offset or impression blankets. Coacting with the cylinder 2 are a transfer cylinder 8, a reciprocating bed 1, and a cylinder 6. The bed 1 and cylinder 6 both may be fitted with either phonographic or letterpress printing-surfaces, and are provided with inking and damping apparatus which may be rendered inoperative as desired. The cylinders 6, 8 and the bed 1 may also be rendered inoperative. When the offset cylinder 8 is used, it receives an inked impression from an offset blanket on the surface 3, and then prints on a sheet carried by the surface 4. When double offsetting takes place, a design is also transferred to a blanket on the surface 4, and, while a sheet on the surface 4 is printed on by the roller 8, it also receives a print from the surface 4. The machine may be used as a flat-bed single-colour direct or offset letterpress or lithographic press, as a two-colour direct or offset lithographic or typographic press, or as a lithographic and typographic press, as a combined offset and direct printing-press, or as a perfecting offset press.
