Offset machines; inking-apparatus. -To obtain clearer prints from a rotary offset printing-press, the ink is applied to the plate cylinder from the inking-rollers through the intermediary of an inking-blanket on the offset cylinder. As shown, the offset cylinder 2 is double the diameter of the plate cylinder 7 and of the impression cylinder 11, and is provided with an offset blanket 3, and a rubber or equivalent inking-blanket 1 which receives ink from the inking- rollers 16 and deposits it upon the plate 6 of the cylinder 7. The impression cylinder 11 and inking-rollers 16 are provided with any suitable tripping-mechanism by which they are tripped during the passage by them of the inking-blanket 1 and offset blanket 3 respectively. The plate cylinder 7 and damping-apparatus 10 also are provided with suitable tripping-mechanisms. The cylinders 7 and 2 are preferably arranged beneath the delivery board 18 so that the printed sheets and various parts of the press can be inspected by an attendant from the delivery end of the machine. For two-colour work, a second offset cylinder with its plate cylinder may be combined with the impression cylinder 11.
