Abstract
416,960. Carbon papers. WILHELM, O., 15, Moltkestrasse, Heidelberg, Germany. Nov. 17, 1933, No. 32142. Convention date, Nov. 17, 1932. [Class 100 (iv).] Duplicating forms are first printed, then provided with a coating of duplicating ink by a printing process, and lastly with a second coating of ink, applied by spreading, preferably by means of an expansion cylinder. The paper 2, Fig. 1, is printed by couples 3, 4 and then passes between an impression cylinder 5 and a printing-cylinder 6 which prints in duplicating ink from a trough 7 the symbols 10, 11, Fig. 3, and the shaded area. The paper then passes over a cylinder 8 which can be expanded so as to have a greater peripheral speed than the web and is adapted to spread a second layer of ink over the shaded area and slightly less in extent than the first, thus producing a coating with sharp edges, due to the printing process, but which is over most of its area of uniform thickness, due to the spreading process. The symbols 10, 11 are intended to be transferred by rubbing. The preliminary printing may be effected by the cylinder 5 which may be an intaglio, offset, or relief printing-cylinder. The form plates on the cylinders 6, 8 may be arranged to have grains of different coarseness according to the amount of ink to be applied. The cylinders 6, 8 and the trough 7 may be heated, and the cylinder 5 and a cylinder 9 may be cooled.
