In an inking apparatus where ink from a duct 3 travels via a ductor roller 1 and a leakage or metering roller 2 to the first inking roller 6 of an inking train a predetermined gap a is maintained between the rollers 1 and 2 by coacting spacer rings 9, 13 provided at the roller ends. The pressure between the rollers 1, 2 is fluid pressure adjusted by mounting the roller 2 in supports 10 carried by piston-and-cylinder devices 11, 12 which are actuated to move the roller 2 towards and away from the roller 1.
