218,698. Yetter, J. C. Feb. 7, 1923. Rotary presses; drying-apparatus. - In continuous-web multi-colour or multi-impression printing-presses of the type wherein the web is moved successively through printing-units, means being provided to maintain registration between successive impressions, the means for feeding the web are driven frictionally by means permitting adjustment to be made of the speed of the web between pairs of units. A web from a roll 9 is passed through three printing units A, B, C, each comprising a printing-cylinder 7, which may be etched or engraved, an impression cylinder 6, and a heated drying cylinder 71, and thence to a fourth unit D adapted to print on the back of the web and comprising a printing-cylinder 119, an impression cylinder 118, and a drying cylinder 120. The drying cylinders are driven through separate variable-speed friction drives.
