366,988. Coating webs. HAYNES, A. J., 28, Meadow Road, Merton, London. Nov. 10, 1930, No. 4409. [Class 140.] A machine for coating canvas, hessian, and similar fabrics with waterproof material comprises a supply drum c from which the fabric is unwound, a series of rollers e, k, d, b over which the fabric passes back to and over the drum c, and a further roller f over which the fabric passes to an adjustable spreading knife j formed with a bevelled edge, the run of the fabric passing under the knife being supported by the run of fabric coming form the roll c in its first traverse through the machine. The coating material in liquid form is poured or pumped on to the canvas immediately in front of the spreading knife. The rollers f, k are adjustable vertically by means of hand-wheels and screw mechanism h, while the rollers e, f and the knife are together adjustable horjzontally by means of similar mechanism g.
