Abstract
Aqueous emulsions are prepared by the use, as sole emulsifying agent, of turpentine oil, preferably such as is obtained from the sulphate cellulose or charcoal industries. Examples of mixtures prepared according to the invention are as follows:--(1) With 100 parts of water are mixed (a) 100 parts of colophony and 10 parts of sulphate-cellulose turpentine oil while heating; (b) 50 parts of liquid rosin and 1 part of the turpentine oil in the cold; (c) 100 parts of paraffin and 50 parts of turpentine oil while heating; (d) 200 parts of liquid rosin while hot, followed by the gradual addition of 4 parts of turpentine oil; the mixtures are suitable for impregnating wood, paper or textiles, and mixtures (a) and (b) also for sizing paper and for application to the skin as plasters in the case of burns. (2) 100 Parts of bitumen-asphalt, 10 parts of turpentine oil, and 100 parts of water are stirred together hot and a small proportion of liquid rosin or a soap thereof added as stabilizer to the cooled mixture to form an emulsion of use in making roads or coating wood, iron or concrete. Specifications 213,590 and 252,260, [both in Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], are referred to.ALSO:Emulsified products suitable for sizing paper are prepared by mixing, with 100 parts of water, (a) 100 parts of colophony and 10 parts of sulphate-cellulose turpentine oil while heating, or (b) 50 parts of liquid rosin and 1 part of the turpentine oil. Specifications 213,590 and 252,260, [both in Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], are referred to.ALSO:Emulsified products suitable for application to the skin as plasters in the case of burns are prepared by mixing, with 100 parts of water, (a) 100 parts of colophony and 10 parts of sulphate-cellulose turpentine oil while heating, or (b) 50 parts of liquid rosin and 1 part of the turpentine oil.
