Abstract

Aqueous emulsions of fats, oils, paraffin wax and like substances, particularly for impregnating textiles, comprise, in addition to the principal ingredient and in some cases an emulsifying agent, a protective colloid, such as glue, and an aluminium salt, the whole being prepared in concentrated form and diluted before use. The aluminium salt may be added to the otherwise prepared emulsion or to the protective colloid during the process of making. For example, (1) 300 parts of paraffin wax are emulsified in 500 parts of water containing 100 parts of glue and 50 parts of an emulsifying agent and 15 parts of pulverized aluminium acetate slowly stirred in at 50-60 DEG C. to form a plastic stable mass; (2) 125 parts of petroleum jelly and 125 parts of paraffin wax are fused together and emulsified with 700 parts of water containing 80 parts of gelatine and 100 parts of aluminium acetate.
