Abstract

Stable aqueous emulsions of drying oils for use as sizes, or for the production of sizes, include alkali hexametaphosphate, which transforms into soluble complex products the insoluble compounds formed between a soap used as emulsifying agent and the calcium or magnesium salts in the water. The invention may be applied to the preparation of sizing baths ready for use, or to the preparation of concentrated emulsions, such as these described in Specification 409,469, which are to be diluted with water before use as sizes. The size may also include wax, resin and gelatine.
