Abstract

A cream for the skin or for use when shaving is prepared by dissolving in water a soap containing an excess of potassium or sodium hydroxide, and mixing in a magnesium salt, e.g. magnesium sulphate, so as to form a suspension of magnesium hydroxide in the cream.ALSO:A cream for medicinal application to the skin is prepared by dissolving in water a soap manufactured from palmitic, stearic, and/or oleic acid and an excess of potassium or sodium hydroxide, adding a magnesium salt, and intermingling the mass to enable the free alkali in the soap to precipitate magnesium hydroxide in a creamy or milky condition so that it remains in suspension in the cream. Suitable proportions are 24 lbs. of soap, 150 to 175 lbs. of water, and 4 to 6 lbs. of magnesium sulphate.
