Abstract

224,802. Schnell, H. W. H., and Schnell & Schelling's Patenten. April 10, 1924. Porous plastic compositions for heat-insulating purposes or for buoyant articles are obtained by adding plaster of Paris to a froth obtained by heating a mixture of air-slaked.lime and a soap solution or an aqueous emulsion of fat or oil. The preferred proportions are 1 part by weight of plaster, 2 parts of lime, and 3 parts of a 1 per cent soap solution. The product, which is porous, may be either cast into blocks or other articles, or it may be cast and then ground to powder, which after mixing with chalk and fibres may be made into insulating cord.
