Description

B.Process for the preparation of aqueous emulsions of solid paraffins In contrast to aqueous oil emulsions, which are emulsions of two liquid components. when emulsifying paraffinic hydrocarbons, z. B. table paraffins and slack wax, a solid and a liquid component dispersed together to form an emulsion-like dispersion of the solid Substance in the aqueous phase. The dispersion must also be Temperatures above the melting point of the solid component (paraffin), d. H. in their liquid phase. for the production of such dispersions is therefore required if you have sufficient stability and, in particular, unlimited Want to achieve dilutability, except for the emulsifier, such as. B.

Harzseife, noch einen gut wirkenden Stabilisator.Resin soap, another effective stabilizer.

Substances such as casein, hide and bone glue have proven to be a stabilizer etc. proven.

It has now been found that one can with good success in place of the hitherto organic stabilizers used water glass (sodium or potassium silicate) can use if one can use the same in proper proportion to the crowd and character of the substance to be emulsified (oily paraffin slack or oil-free table paraffin) used. The required amounts of water glass are extremely small and lie below I%, based on the amount of paraffin to be emulsified: It is important that the water glass of the hot, aqueous resin soap serving as an emulsifier is added and not the other way around. This mixture is then left to emulsify in a uniform manner Inflow with to a temperature above its melting point, preferably to 70 to 800, heated paraffin of an emulsifying device, e.g. B. an I-lurrelmühle, for thorough mixing.

B. Olein, verwenden. To achieve the favorable pH value, it is recommended that for The resin used to produce the emulsifier only has 90% of its saponification value corresponding amount of lye, e.g. B. potassium hydroxide to saponify. Instead of a resin soap you can use other common emulsifiers, such as. B. olein, use.

Example I, 67 kg of resin are added with the addition of 0.27% KOH (480 Be) saponified at 800 and diluted with 500/0 water. 0.5 is added to the hot solution % Soda water glass (30%, specific weight 1.280, based on the amount of resin. In a second vessel, 47.1% slack wax (oil content about 10 to Ig%), also based on the amount of resin, melted at 80p. The two Liquids are fed to a Hurrel mill in a steady feed and are good mixed; the emulsion running off is then passed through the mill again. This gives a stable emulsion that can be diluted with water in any ratio, which, even after standing for a long time, neither settles water nor paraffin on the surface framed. By adding frost-preventing agents such as glycol or glycerine, the emulsion can be made frost-resistant.
