Abstract

364,709. Photographic printing. HALL, B. J., 2, Weymouth Street, and HALL, B. F., 8, Scarsdale Studios, Stratford Road, both in London. Oct. 20, 1930, No. 31382. [Class 98 (ii).] The attractive or repellant force of static electricity is employed to separate two or more sheets of paper, cloth, or other material travelling in the same direction so that the top or bottom sheet can be made to travel in a direction differing from that of the remaining sheet or sheets. As shown, a pair of sheets c<1>, e<2> delivered from a photographic-printing machine by a conveyer band E are directed by a guide-plate F under a roller B charged electrostatically by a roller A in frictional contact, whereby the sheet e<1> is attracted and passes over the rollers B, A and back towards the feed end of the machine, and the sheet e<2> is delivered on to a table J. Should the forward end of the sheet e<2> be in advance of the sheet e<1>, the former is attracted by the roller B but falls away as soon as the latter is interposed. Alternatively, electrostatic lifters consisting of stationary devices or endless bands charged by friction, induction, or otherwise may be arranged above or below the sheets and may be separated from the sheets by screens of open-mesh insulating-material preventing contact therewith the screens may be fixed or rotary and may be in the form of a conveyer band.
