Abstract

1,213,489. Feeding sheets. WINKLER & DUNNEBIER MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI K.G. 23 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 3447/68. Heading B8R. Sheets are separated from a number of stacks 3, 3<SP>1</SP> by feeding devices comprising movable suction members 5,5<SP>1</SP> and rotary conveyer means 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, the suction members being arranged to withdraw bottom sheets from each of the stacks in succession and the conveyer means being arranged to accelerate the sheets and feed them at regular intervals along a common path. Pipe supports.-Tongue members 7, 7<SP>1</SP> move in synchronism with the suction members to support the stacks. Separators.-Suction members 5, 5<SP>1</SP> swing on hollow shafts 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and transfer sheets to rotating segments 8, 8<SP>1</SP>. Sheet carriers and forwarders.-Sheets are engaged by the cut-outs of segments 8, 8<SP>1</SP> held thereto by suction and then transferred to suction cylinders 11, 11<SP>1</SP> co-operating with nip rollers 14, 14<SP>1</SP>. Cylinders 11 travel at twice the peripheral speed of segments 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and serve to accelerate the sheets from each of the two stacks and transfer them in succession to a common suction cylinder 16. Cylinder 16 may be a printing cylinder. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) sheets from both stacks are fed to a cylinder similar to cylinder 11, sheets from one stack reaching the cylinder via a segment similar to segement 8, sheets from the other stack reaching the cylinder via a segment similar to segment 8<SP>1</SP> and a further suction cylinder rotating at twice the periperal speed of the segment 8<SP>1</SP>.
