Abstract

1,033,970. Sheet delivering apparatus. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Oct. 14, 1964 [Dec. 4 1963], No. 47967/63. Heading B6H. [Also in Division B8] A thin ferrous metal sheet S is delivered by suitable means to an input conveyer comprising a plurality of endless belts 1, supported in spaced side-by-side relation, and magnets 2 which cause the sheet S to adhere to the belts 1 for transport therewith, non-magnetic stationary skids 3 being interposed between the belts 1 and the magnets 2. The input conveyer moves the sheet S to a position where it is engaged by a first transporter unit comprising a plurality of endless delivery belts 4 controlled by a clutch 5. When in movement the belts 4 move at the same speed as the belts 1. Magnets 6 co-operate with the belts 4 to cause the sheets to adhere thereto, non-magnetic stationary skids 7 being interposed between the belts 4 and the magnets 6. A sensing device 30 causes the clutch 5 to be disengaged automatically as a sheet approaches a sheet receiving position above an intermediate conveyer comprising endless belts 8 so that the sheet S is arrested and, on operation of pneumatic cylinders 44, stripper elements 36 are moved by parallel linkages to move the sheet S out of the field of the magnets 6 so that it falls under gravity on to the belts 8. The belts 8 co-operate with endless belts 58 to turn over the sheet S (Fig. 1A) and move it to transfer belts 52, 53 which feed it to a second transporter unit similar to the first but disposed over a sheet receiving position of a stacking device 55 of known form. Instead of the belts 58 co-operating with the belts 8 around roller 59, as shown in Fig. 1A, the belts 58 may be only wrapped around roller 60, roller 59 being magnetized to retain the sheet until it is received by the belts 58. When the sheets S are not to be reversed it is not necessary to arrest the movement of the transporting belts and the sheets S as they leave the belts 1 are received by deflector belts 68 mounted on pivoted frames 69 swung into the position shown in Fig. 8 by a pneumatic cylinder 72. At the same time frame elements 64, 65 occupy the positions shown in Fig. 8 so that the belts 8 feed the sheets S to the belts 52, 53. At the sheets run off the belts 68 no stripper elements are required. Magnets 70 co-operate with the belts 68 and stationary skids are provided.
