Abstract

In treating fuels by heat under pressure, e.g. in destructive hydrogenation, a combustible gas or gases together with air or oxygen under pressure are fed continuously through a combustion chamber, the air or oxygen being preheated to a temperature exceeding the ignition temperature of the gas. The resulting heated gas mixture passes from the combustion chamber into direct contact with the substance to be treated.
