Abstract
<PICT:0360171/III/1> An apparatus for emulsifying or mixing fatty materials, or for producing synthetic milk, can be suspended in a receptacle containing the materials to be treated, and has rotary propellers which force the materials upwards and outwards through a perforated cylinder. The apparatus is enclosed in a bell casing a. The wire gauze cylindrical screen b is held between a ring d and lugs n on the plate f by blade springs <PICT:0360171/III/2> h which are connected with pins i resting in the slot j of a bayonet joint. The plate f supports a bearing q for the shaft r which carries the propeller o at the lower end of the bell a, and an inverted cone s at the upper end. The materials pass into the apparatus at its lower end and are thrown upwards and outwards by the propeller o; the stream that impinges on the cone s is deflected outwards through the screen b. The mixed material passes upwards between the screen b and bell a, through the openings p in the top of the bell and is deflected by the plate t into the main receptacle. A constant circulation is thus maintained. In a modification two screw propellers are used and the cone s is omitted. Specification 242,020, [Class 86, Mixing, &c.], is referred to.
