Abstract

298,847. Hinton, G. B. Feb. 27, 1928. Porous compositions.-Apparatus for making a cellular cement material comprises a container having an annular chamber adapted to receive element pulp mixed with a frothing flotation agent, means for supplying air to the mixture, and a rotary agitating device, operating in the annular chamber, for breaking up the air into bubbles of substantially uniform size. The apparatus shown in Fig. 2 comprises an outer horizontal cylindrical shell 1 and an inner shell 4 fixed to form an annular chamber between theshells joined to an end chamber. Rotating within the chamber is a perforated stirrer 3 having radial pins 8. A cement supply pipe 6 enters thechamber near the bottom and an outlet pipe 7 is at the top. Air is admitted at the bottom through an inlet 5. In a modification, Fig. 6, the inner shell 4 is carried by a rotatable shaft 10 which also carries a perforated stirring cage 11. A second stirrer 3 is arranged between the inner shell 4 and the stirrer 11, and is rotated in the opposite direction. In the construction shown in Fig. 8, the tank 1 is vertical. The inner shell 4 is rotatable and carries a number of perforated plates 3 which alternate with perforated plates carried by a cage 11 adapted to be rotated in the opposite direction.
