Abstract
359,369. Centrifugal machines. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 1, 1931, No. 12905. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1931. [Class 23.] The spinning chamber of a centrifugal machine is built on to the motor housing and is resilient in respect thereto, so that oscillations are made by the chamber itself and not by the spinning pot. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the motor 1 spins the pot 5 contained in the chamber 2 which is closed by a cover 3 and is connected to the motor housing by a rubber or other resilient connection 6. In a modification the chamber itself is resilient, being made of thin sheet metal; the oscillations made by the chamber are damped by rubber cushions which are supported on brackets and engage the casing 2 and cover 3. In a further modification shown in Fig. 3, the chamber 2 with resilient walls is secured by straps 9 to feet 10 on the motor housing. The oscillations are damped by a heavy cover 3 resting loosely on a ring 12 of felt or like material. Cooling air passes between the tube 13 and the motor housing, entering at the bottom and leaving by the slots 14. A centrifugal disc or fan may be fixed to the shaft to assist the passage of the cooling air.
