Abstract

891,481. Centrifuges. HAWKSLEY & SONS Ltd. March 12, 1958 [March 19, 1957], No. 8955/57. Class 23. [Also in Group XXXV] In a centrifuge comprising a rotor 7 mounted on the spindle 6 of an electric motor 5 which is suspended within a housing 1 from a mounting plate 4, and a baffle 14 mounted in the housing between the plate 4 and the rotor, the housing wall has an aperture 9 adjacent the rim of the rotor and level with the baffle, the arrangement being that the air blast through the part of the aperture above the baffle and produced by the rotor acts to draw air from that part of the housing containing the motor and eject it through the part of the aperture below the baffle. The plate 4 has an aperture 16 for the passage of air from the motor, and the baffle is polished. The housing has a hinged cover 10 having a central hole 13 for the admission of air.
