Abstract

893,737. Centrifugal separators. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Feb. 9, 1960 [Feb. 11, 1959], No. 4760/59. Class 23. Solid is separated from liquid in apparatus comprising a rotary vessel 9 of inverted frusto conical shape having a centrally apertured cover 12. The vessel is supported within a holder 10 having a transparent cover 15 and adapted to be attached to the shaft of an electric motor by screws 5, a cushioning liquid filling the space 14 between vessel and holder. After centrifuging the solids remain packed at the periphery of the vessel which may be silica and the clear liquid is discharged by a suction tube. In modifications the vessel is directly connected to the motor shaft, is provided with internal radial ribs, and is constructed of transparent material, or from metallic material having a plastic or platinum lining.
