Abstract
358,515. Brakes. CHRISTIANSEN, M. A. A. P., 12, Ole Olsens Vej, Gentofte, Denmark. July 4, 1930, No. 20329. Convention date, Jan. 30. [Class 103 (i).] Comprises means for controlling the throttle, brake and/or clutch of a motor vehicle by a single pedal or the like, in which the throttle valve 2 is normally biased to the open position and the brake or clutch pedal 9 has a movable foot-piece 12 connected to the throttle by Bowden or other mechanism 13, 14, the arrangement being such that a progressive movement of the driver's foot in one and the same direction first closes the throttle and then actuates the brake and/or the clutch withdrawal mechanism. In the construction shown the throttle spindle 3 carries arms 4, 5, the arm 4 being acted upon by a spring 6 tending to open the throttle and by the Bowden wire 13 actuated by the foot-piece 12. The extent to which the throttle is opened by the spring 6 is controlled by engagement of the arm 5 with a stop 24 on a handactuated rod 23. The pedal 9 is the brake pedal (the connections to the brakes not being shown) and is connected to the clutch 16 by a rod 20, having an adjustable lost-motion connection 21, 22, and the clutch lever 17, the mechanism being so arranged that the clutch is not disengaged by the brake pedal until the brakes have been applied to a predetermined extent.
