Abstract

Controlling different functions by same lever; interlocking and guarding against wrong movement.-The hand brake, a second brake, and the member for controlling the engine speed are so interconnected that when the hand brake is applied the speed of the engine is decreased, after which further application of the hand brake causes the second brake to be applied also. In the construction shown the hand-brake lever a, in addition to being connected to the brake linkage c, is connected by a rod k to a wedge l which, when the brake is applied acts on an arm connected to the throttle g and so closes the latter. The upward movement of this arm raises a pedal lever e which, after the throttle has closed, applies the foot brake. The throttle is normally controlled by depression of the pedal e as described in Specification 286,241. The invention may be used in conjunction with the automatic changespeed gears described in Specifications 259,975; and 276,853, [Class 80 (iii), Linkwork &c.], in which the drive depends on the engine speed.
