Abstract

294,221. Aktiebolaget Spontan. July 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Controlling different functions by same lever; stop-gear operated by driver releasing a lever.- Relates to controlling-apparatus of the kind described in Specification 286,241 in which the brakes are applied by a spring and released by a pedal further depression of which, after the brakes are released, operates the throttle or other engine control, and comprises an arrangment in which the action of the brake spring on the pedal is at a minimum near the lowest end position of the pedal and increases in each direction from the minimum value position. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the pedal a is mounted on a shaft f and is raised to actuate brake rods d, d' by a spring b acting between a fixed pivot g and a pivot e on the pedal. In its lowest position the pedal actuates the throttle linkage s, and in this range of movement the spring passes from one side of the line M joining the pivots g, f, to the other, so that as the throttle is gradually opened the spring pressure against the pedal first decreases and then increases. The spring abuts against plates u, v, having pins h, l which can rock to a limited extent in the pivots e, g while the pedal is in its higher positions; however, when the pedal is depressed to control the throttle the pins reach the limit of their rocking movement and the spring is thereafter bent by further depression of the pedal. In a modification the brakes are applied by a torsion rod one end of which is controlled by an adjustable stop while the other carries an arm acting through a cam member on the pedal a.
