Abstract

293,233. Badertscher, J., and Badertscher Vacuumbremse Akt.-Ges. July 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Controlling different functions by same handle or lever.-In a vehicle braking system in which the brakes are applied by hand or foot or by a servo element actuated bv the suction of the engine, the servo element may be operated by the movement of either or both of the engine control members as well as by the brake hand-lever or pedal or an additional lever. Fig. 1 shows diagrammatically a side elevation and Fig. 3 a plan of vehicle braking and controlling mechanism in which a brake operating cylinder 1 is connected to a brake applying lever 3 by a link 2,. the cylinder being connected by a pipe 8 to a control valve 7 having a connection 10 to theinduction pipe S of the engine. The valve lever 17 may be operated to apply the brakes when the accelerator pedal 14 or the hand control lever 23 on the steering column L is moved to the slow running position or when the brake pedal 5 is depressed. The throttle operating rod 13 telescopes into the tubular stem of the accelerator 14 on which is adjustably mounted a stop 15. When the accelerator 14 is moved to the slow running position by a spring 18 the stop 15 engages the valve lever 17 and applies the brake. The hand control lever 23 is connected by a, wire 21 to the stop 15. The valve Lever 17 may also be applied by a spring wire connection 20 from the brake pedal 5 to a lever 19 pivoted on the axis of the valve lever 17 and having a one-way connection therewith. When the lever 19 engages the adjustable stop 24, the spring wire 20 bends or buckles to allow further depression of the pedal 5.
