Abstract
460,618. Controlling motor vehicles. GASPARD, A. P. April 15, 1936, No. 10893. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1935. [Class 79 (v)] A combined brake and accelerator control comprises an oscillatory member 4 mounted on the brake pedal 1 and connected to the throttle through a cable 5 passing through a guide tube 6 secured to the brake pedal, the arrangement being such that lateral displacement of the member 4 tensions the cable to open the throttle, while actuation of the brake pedal displaces the guide tube to release the cable 5 and allow the throttle to close. The member 4 is carried by a lever 2 pivoted at 3 to the pedal 1. The cable 5 is secured at one end to the throttle lever 161 and its other end may be fixed to the lever 2. In the construction shown, however, the cable passes through a flexible sheath 8 fixed at one end to the lever 2 and at the other end to a sleeve 12 fixed on the dashboard, the end of the cable 5 being secured to a plunger 10 controlled by a handle 11, so that when the plunger is pulled outwards the cable 5 is pulled and the throttle is opened independently of the member 4. The plunger 10 is adapted to remain in any position in which it is left by the driver, being braked by a rubber washer compressed by a nut 14.
