[Class 35.] Induction machines; mounting rotors; cores.-A high-speed motor with a vertical shaft mounted so as to have a certain amount of play and be selfbalancing is formed with a flat air gap, which is stated to produce an electromagnetic damping of the oscillations of the shaft. In the arrangement described, the shaft G is mounted on bearings in a sleeve B, which is supported with a certain amount of play in a casing A containing lubricating oil. The stator consists of a core C with radial slots in which are arranged windings D and the rotor H of a disc with radial slots containing conductors connected by short-circuiting rings K. Both the rotor and stator cores may be formed of sheet metal coiled spirally.
