Abstract

468,065. Magnetos. RALEIGH CYCLE CO., Ltd., and RAWLINGS, G. W. Nov. 26, 1935, No. 32762. [Class 35] A cycle lighting-generator comprises a multipolar annular permanent magnet. h and a wound multipolar armature j mounted within the hub d of the cycle wheel, the magnet being fixed to the wheel hub and the armature to the spindle a. The spindle carries a fixed ball race b and an adjustable ball race c co-operating with races on the hub d. The hub has a flange e drilled for spoke heads and a flange f to which is riveted a dished and preferably non-magnetic shell g carrying the magnet and having a flange g' drilled for spoke heads. The laminated stator is carried by a bracket k and the windings on the poles are of stepped formation, as shown, to utilize the maximum winding space. One end of the winding is connected to a terminal n carried by an insulating plate m secured with the bracket k to the fixed ball race by a nut o and locked by a nut p. The other end of the winding is earthed through the bracket k. Dust excluders and lubricant retainers i are provided for the ball races. The magnet may be of nickel-aluminium alloy or of cobalt steel and the machine may have twenty poles.
