Abstract

851,971. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. April 5, 1957 [Jan. 6, 1956], No. 592/56. Class 35. The brush-gear is in a compartment 13 separated from the compartment 12 housing the cores of an alternator and its exciter, the two stators having helical liquid cooling ducts. The interiors of the rotors are cooled by liquid e.g. oil entering at 29 and traversing tube 28 within the hollow shaft 8 which is supported by bearings in one end bracket and in the partition 9. As an alternative oil could be fed to the shaft near the central bearing 10 on the side remote from the commutator 5. According to the Provisional Specification, the exciter could be in the current collecting gear compartment.
