Abstract
In the production of ammonium sulphate nitrate by introducing sulphuric acid, nitric acid and ammonia into ammonium nitrate solution, operations are carried out under such strongly alkaline conditions that losses of nitrogen due to decomposition of nitric acid are avoided. The rising vapours are freed from ammonia by the counter-flowing sulphuric acid. This may be given a large contact surface by the provision of filling rings or the like, and is preheated almost to its boiling temperature at the pressure used. Vacuum is employed. Specification 358,295 is referred to.ALSO:In the production of ammonium sulphate nitrate by introducing sulphuric acid, nitric acid and ammonia into ammonium nitrate solution, operations are carried out under such strongly alkaline conditions that losses of nitrogen due to decomposition of nitric acid are avoided, the rising vapours being freed from ammonia by the counter-flowing sulphuric acid.
