Abstract

A fertilizer which contains urea and ammonium sulphate is produced by adding sulphuric acid and ammonia to an aqueous solution of urea under such conditions that the heat of neutralisation will remove the main portion of the water contained in the reaction mixture, the reaction temperature not exceeding 140 DEG C. Urea solutions obtained in the synthesis of urea are suitable for use. Preferably the ammonium is added as a gas admixed with other diluent gases and consequently keeps the reaction mixture in a state of agitation. The process, which may be operated at reduced pressures, may also be carried out as a continuous process.
