Abstract

Paper is parchmentised by treatment with sulphuric acid, which may be more dilute than that customarily used, first at a temperature between 10 DEG and -50 DEG C. and then at a temperature above 12 DEG C. The paper may be passed through cold sulphuric acid at, e.g.-20 DEG C. and subsequently through another acid bath at higher temperature, e.g. 20 to 25 DEG C.
