Abstract

The invention comprises 6-chloro-3-indolylacetonitrile, and the preparation thereof by quaternating 6-chloro-gramine by the action of dimethyl sulphate in an inert organic solvent and treating the product with a source of cyanide ions. The process may be combined with the preparation of 6-chloro-gramine by the process of Specification 888,424. Specification 868,475 also is referred to.
